Nancy Barbato, Frank Sinatra’s first wife and the mother of his children, never remarried following the end of her relationship with him.
From written accounts of SInatra’s life, she profoundly humiliated following his affairs and by the final dissolution of their marriage so that Sinatra could be with actor Ava Gardner. Barbato remained in New Jersey to raise their three children and spent the remainder of her life basically waiting for Sinatra to return to her. He would often call her, he paid for homes and expenses, and he would visit her home whenever he was depressed or troubled. While it angered their children to have it promoted by the media, Sinatra and his ex-wife often slept together; however he never returned to her, and he died married to his fourth wife in 1998.
Barbato herself lived for another 13 years, not only surviving her ex-spouse, but also his namesake son by two years.
